Pedro Balmaceda arrives in Argentina with a very specific assignment: to accompany and give protection to "Thunder", a hurdle racehorse that's been his best friend for the last five years and whom he's trained to be the best of its kind.
Pedro's had a great passion for these animals since his early years but as he belonged to a poor family he could never have any of his own; all he could do was work close to them. For that reason, when he saw Thunder he knew this horse would become his favorite. So much so that when the animal is sold to Mariano Linares, young and ambitious Argentine entrepreneur, her owner enters an agreement with the buyer stating that Pedro should be Thunder's caretaker during its adaptation period in the new country.
Mariano Linares doesn't fully agree with the lady's request because he hates to have a stranger at his ranch but finally accepts the deal. Actually, his mind is set on something much more important: his marriage to Ana Laura Villalobos Kent.
Ana Laura belongs to a distinguished high-class family although they have lost most of their properties and wealth. Besides, there's something the girl doesn't know: her marriage is a fake, an economic deal made between her father and Mariano's, as a last resource to save her family from bankruptcy.
Just as Pedro has predicted, the horse doesn't get used to its new home. It gets restless and rebellious and doesn't accept anyone by his side except for Pedro.
Mariano decides to handle the issue his way and separates Pedro from his position. However, Pedro is supported by an agreement and doesn't give in so easily so he finds the way to stay next to the horse. But Mariano manages to take the horse away from him and hide it in an unknown place.
Destiny webs its way between both characters and some minutes before the wedding, Ana Laura overhears all the truth about her marriage. Her disappointment is so outrageous that she decides to run away from church leaving Mariano and all his outstanding guests by the altar.
Pedro and Ana Laura meet on that very tragic day in a barn some miles away from the ranch where Pedro is desperately looking for the horse while Ana Laura is running away from the lie of which she's the main victim.
The attraction they both feel is instantaneous but Pedro knows himself well so he tries not to get involve in her conflict. He knows that once he gives his word nothing can make him change his mind.
However, Ana's beauty and power of persuasion are so strong that he finally helps her escape from the ranch.
From then on, Ana and Pedro's lives will be bound by circumstances, although none of them is fully aware of what's still to come.
Ana Laura will have to suffer the torture of living with a man she doesn't love in order to save his father's life and her whole family from going bankrupt while Pedro will learn a well-kept secret he's never dreamed of.
With time, he'll discover that his arrival in Argentina was not a matter of chance but a move carefully planned by his actual mother, Victoria O'Hara, Thunder's former owner.
A stunning and amazing plot is the basis that contains all the interrogations leading to the further development of the story.
Pedro will walk a long and winding road discovering among some other things that his true parents are Alvaro Linares and Victoria instead of Cristina Balmaceda, a humble Puerto Rican girl who raised him with all her love and devotion.
He will also discover that he has a half brother with whom he shares the only woman he's ever loved, Ana Laura.
And what's more, he'll have to prove that Thunder must not be sacrificed and that it's absolutely fit to win any competition.
Pedro will have to face different challenges as saving the horse's life and his own and the woman he loves from his brother's evil maneuvers.
When Alvaro Linares dies, this sequence of challenges will reach its climax since Pedro will have to confront Ana Laura in the fight for his inheritance which is also claimed by the girl as a solution to her misery and sorrow.
