Telenovela-World: spoiler summary for tonight's episode [USA, 3/15/05] /for B. and WCC,too Author: maritere (---) Date: 03-15-05 19:20 PST

Vanya goes to the camp, finds out from Pasca that one of the tribe has the gift of channeling the dead, Vanya guesses it's Salome, while Drago overhears the whole conversation and decides to deal with Salome once and for all. Pasca goes off to the party and Vanya stays behind, invitd to drink by Drago to their "old friendship" but Vanya is anything but friendly...though Drago tries to get on his good side by recalling "old times".

At the party, everybody's already there, when Juan and Ximena make their grand entrance. Jovanka greets them and gives them a courteous welcome.

Juan sees Rafa there and takes refuge in the kitchen with Ximena, talking about how hard it is to deal with Rafa's illness, the situation with Joivanka, the woman he loves, is just tearing him apart, because at his age, he doesn't have the personal experience to deal with such a situation. Ximena advises him that if he can't find the courage to give up Jovanka to leave the way clear for Rafa, he needs to do something totally terrible, to make Jovanka despise him forever. Juan of course, can't possibly think of anything....

Alfredo makes a nice speech during the peticion de mano, everybody's having fun dancing. The snacks are gone, so Jovanka and Sashenka go to the kitchen to get more food. Ximena sees them coming and grabs Juan in a clinch, to the gitanas' horror and astonishment. Juan continues kissing Ximena (or more accurately, letting himself be kissed). Then Ximena defiantly begs Jovaka's pardon for their behavior in her house. Jovanka doesn't listen to her, she wants to hear what this was all about from Juan. Juan gives her the lamest, stupidest excuse on the planet- they just couldn't control themselves, he's sorry for disrespecting her house....(meanwhile smoke is coming out of Sashenka's ears and her eyes are shooting laser daggers at Juan). She tells Juan off again for being a traitor, and Jovanka finally hauls her out of there and tries to reason with her, but Sashenka's too angry to listen. Jovanka doesn't want Magda's party spoiled, and orders the Shrew to shut up (another exercise in futility).

Sashenka tells Rafa, who confronts Juan and accuses him of all manner of base things, while Juan refuses to fight with him and finally leaves with Ximena.

Jovanka thanks Rafa, who swears that while he's around, no one will disrespect his friend Jovanka, mother of his daughter. Jovank is moved and caresses his cheek, calling him a loco maravilloso. Rafa takes advantage and throws her a few soulful looks while he kisses her hand.

Meanwhile, Drago and Vanya are still conversing by the campfire: turns out Vanya saved his sorry hide once when they were young. Drago admits he used to admire Vanya; but when he became Patriarca, Drago became his servant instead of his friend. Drago admits that destiny fixed that by making Vanya an exiled gypsy and him Patriarca; Vanya admits it only happened because Drago knew how to capitalize on his errors of judgement - Drago admits that his jealousy was a very bad advisor, and goes on to tell how easy it was to exploit Yanko's naivete....but despite Vanya's demands, he refuses to admit he killed Yanko.

Sebastian finds out from Escudero that Salome left the pesquera in tears after talking to Erendira; he goes home to question her in front of Vicky, but she refuses to tell him what she said to Salome, playing the victim. When Sebastian isn't moved by her entreaties, she gets defiant and tells him he will never be free of her, because they will be married forever. Sebas throws up his hands and leaves the room, with Vicky eavesdropping outside.

The last scene is back at the camp; Vanya leaves Drago, who promises that it ain't over ....yet!

That's all I can remember...if I missed something important, someone please add it!

ciao

Re: Can someone tell me what happend on todays episode [USA, 3/15/05] I missed it Author: Marisa (---) Date: 03-15-05 19:25 PST

Sebastian had word's with Erendria about what she was doing talking to Salome in his office. Previews show Erendira falling off a horse tomorrow..perhaps this is how they will find out that she is not pregnant. Most of the show ceneered around the engagement party at Jovanka's house. Magda looked beautiful...nice scene by both set of pareent's regarding merging of the cultures...gayo and gitanas. Juan is an idiot...Jimena is making out with Juan in Jovanka's kitchen...Jovanka keeps her cool because she doesn't want to ruin the party. Sashenka has word's with Juan who walk's out with Jimena...people start to talk!!!! she was great tonight. Raphael also has word's with his brother calling him a hyprocrite. Vanya spent the evening drinking wine with Drago. Not sure what that was all about

Telenovela-World: Re: What happend on todays episode ?? [USA, 3/16/05] Author: Marisa (---) Date: 03-16-05 19:54 PST

It was a dissapointing show. Juan is acting like a jerk with Jovanka. Jovanka came over to his apartment and it got ugly. Ximena made it look like she spent the night which sent Jovanka into a tearful scene. He is being tricked by Ximena or just plain stupid and immature. Great acting by Dolores that saved the show...writer's ideas are poor with only five day's to go.

Vanya mde no headway with the tribe....Erendira is still deceiving Sebastian about the baby. Sashenka is coming to the Dominguez mansion tomorrow to tell Sebastian the truth about Fardi...everyone will head to Puerto Santo where danger lurk's. Drago is going after Salome we believe.

Mario and Camila are getting close as a couple but Bronco was lurking in the shadow's. I thought he had left town.

You missed nothing..tomorrow look's like thing's are heating up!!!!

USA, 3/21-23/05 LAST WEEK

Telenovela=World: Summary: Monday 3/21 for our travelers! Author: Robin N (laptop) (---) Date: 03-21-05 19:52 PST

At the pesquera, Sebas and Juan talk about the relief they feel to have Drago taken care of, even if that’s difficult for the gitanos. Juan has bad news for Sebas: he tells him about Rafa’s leukemia.

At Baldomero’s shack, Paska finds a gitano hat and shirt for her brother in the laundry sack that was masquerading as Nina and he tries it on. In waltzes Erendira and they wonder why she’s there. She suggests that they ask their little sister. Who? She hands out the letters and tells them to read them; they’ll find them very interesting. Erendira waltzes out.

Sebas wonders if there’s hope for his father but Juan tells Sebas that there’s still no cure for leukemia. Sebas wonders if they should tell him now that Rafa’s so excited about Sashenka and all. Juan agrees, that’s what he thought too when the doctor told him.

The narcos tell Drago they rescued him because they still have a few pending problems to resolve, problems that are his fault and he’s not going anywhere till he works them out.

Sebas is alone in the pesquera grieving for his father when in waltzes Erendira. He wonders why she’s there as she’s not supposed to leave the house because of her delicate health. And what about Fardi? She tells him that Victoria won’t let her anywhere near him. The way she phrased this leaves Sebas to worry briefly that this is a bad thing (as in, bitter granny looking after his Fardi). She looks sweet and charming and reassures him that Fardi’s well. Sebas tells her that he’s off to see his father and she invites herself along.

Baldomero returns to the tribe and hands the staff of the patriarca to Vanya. All cheer and clap. Branko begins to dance. Jonas heads out but Vanya stops him and tells him to stay. He appreciates how brave he was and even though Jonas made mistakes, particularly with Salome, he’s recognized the error of his ways. Vanya tells him that the tribe needs him.

At Jovanka’s house, Victoria is there with Fardi (apparently rescued unscathed from the tub incident). Claudio and Magda head out to see Vanya and in come Erendira and Sebas. He asks to see his father and Erendira starts to apologize for having left the child with Victoria, when Vicky steps forward with the boy in her arms and looks, indeed, victorious, having saved Fardi and won this round. Erendira swallows her forked serpent’s tongue. Sebas asks what his abuela is doing there and Jovanka tells him she just arrived and was going to tell her that same thing just before he arrived. Victoria tells them that the boy has to stay at Jovanka’s house where he belongs. He belongs with his own people, the gitanos. She’s adamant that the boy won’t enter her house again, much to Sebas’ shock and anger.

Vanya tries to convince Jonas to stay and confront his problems, rather than run away and hide in shame. Jonas talks about feeling very guilty for everything but Vanya tells him that his father is responsible for his own actions. (In the background it looks like Mirko has been taking dancing lessons from Branko). Vanya tells Jonas that he’s got to learn to forgive himself and promises that he’s going to find a woman who truly loves him. Jonas tells him that he’s found that woman but he doubts she’ll forgive him.

Sebas asks his grandmother what happened to her newfound compassion for his son. He tells her that if that’s how she feels, they’ll find their own house but Erendira tells him she’ll talk to Victoria, he should go talk to his father. He promises to never forgive her but Victoria pointedly says that she’s doing this for the good of the child. Jovanka, before leaving the room too, says that she agrees with Victoria in that Fardi belongs in her house, not Vicky’s, but doesn’t think it’s their decisions but instead their children’s -- Sebas and Salome. Alone, Erendira draws her claws and declares war. Victoria tells her she won’t be her accomplice. Erendira wonders what would happen if her son and grandson found out her involvement in the kidnapping. She insinuates that Vicky must continue as she tells her. You’ll have to kill me first, Vicky says. As you wish, purrs Erendira.

Rafa’s sleeping and Sebas wakes him up to introduce him to has grandson. He says that Fardi is identical to Sebas when he as a baby. Rafa asks if he was arguing with his abuela and Sebas tells him about the arguement. Rafa tells him that it doesn’t matter how his abuela is; the only thing that matters is to raise his son well. Sebas tells him that he will, just as his father raised him. Rafa wonders at why his son is so sentimental but Sebas just skirts this and talks about how he appreciates and loves his father. Rafa tears up at this and jokes about how they’ll embarrass Fardi, the grownup men crying like this.

Sashenka wonders at her mother’s concern over Victoria’s behavior, especially as it’s not out of character. In rushes Paska and Baldomero with the letters and they hand them to Jovanka.

Victoria turns on Erendira. She won’t let anyone hurt that child. She tells Erendira that if she hadn’t rescued the child he’d have drowned in the tub. Erendira mocks her and says that Victoria’s just like her mother, and then turns really vicious (at least where Vicky’s concerned). She throws V’s gitano heritage in her face and tells Vicky that her father was right, that she doesn’t have the strength of the Lamberts, her blood is rotten.

In come Jovanka, Sashenka, Paska and Baldomero and Jovanka sends Sashenka for Rafa and Sebas to hear what is about to be said. Paska says that she and her brother have to come to talk to Victoria and she starts to heads out the door but Erendira stops her, grabbing her arm, and tells her that she should at least listen. Rafa and Sebas comes downstairs and Rafa asks his mother what she wanted. She tells them she didn’t want to speak with him at all, she’s trying to leave, but the miserable, resentful gitanos insist on speaking to them. Paska steps forward: Why do you hate us so, gayí or should I call you what you are? Baldomero tells them all that it has to do with a long guarded secret. Paska reads the letter aloud about the child carrying gitano blood. In walk Juan and Jimena to hear the news too. Paska continues on reading her father’s letter: The little Victoria is a gitanilla. Vicky grabs the letter and crumples it. Paska tells her that she’s her sister, and gitano like they are. Victoria looks about in confused shame.

Rafa steps forward and asks Vicky if it’s true. He asks who wrote the letter and Paska tells him that it was her father, who had been expelled from the tribe for falling in love with a gayí. Baldomero fills in the rest of the story. Juan looks astounded and exclaims that this is why they never met any of her family -- well until recently, he adds pointedly looking at Erendira who pretends to look ashamed. Sebas notes that Erendira should have known this secret and she turns all mealy-mouthed and says that yes, she did but she was afraid of shaming her tía. Sebas proclaims angrily that gitano blood is nothing to be ashamed of. This sends Vicky over the edge: You don’t know what you’re talking about, she cries out. You don’t know what it’s like to be shamed and treated like an animal. Shashenka says that she does indeed know, too well, “abuela,” but Vicky says that Sashenka and Fardi are byproducts of the curse she has lived under all her life. She angrily strides from the house, unimpeded.

Magda and Claudio visit Vanya and they have something to ask them. She asks if he thinks that they’ll have trouble because she’s marrying a gayó? He reassures them that this will be something of the past. Claudio promises that he’s deeply in love with his granddaughter and he’ll do what he can to make her happy. Vanya tells them that he can see this and speaks of how both sides have been victims and practitioners of abuse and intolerance and Claudio and Magda are a beautiful example of how love conquers all.

Rafa says that he understands all now, Juan too. Sebas is stunned as well. Was it harder to keep the secret or pretend all these years, he wonders. Jovanka says she understands Victoria’s feelings. Baldomero explains that Victoria was right: they were all cursed as a result of the absurd hatred that was the result of the affair between his father and Victoria’s mother.

In come the cops with the eyewitness (again, nobody knocking) and the eyewitness immediately recognizes Erendira and calls out. Sebas asks what’s going on and the cop explains that Erendira was the woman seen with Rodrigo the night that he was murdered. Erendira looks psychotic. Tell them it’s not true, Sebas tells her. Erendira tries the Drago tactic: Liars! She starts freaking out and a cop pulls his gun. She starts raving and pulls what looks like a letter opener from her purse and says if they come closer she’s kill herself. She says it’s all Sebas’ fault for falling in love with that damned gitana and not her. He tries to talk her down off the emotional ledge but there’s no doing so. No one can help me because I killed Rodrigo, I did it to make you love me! She continues to incriminate herself, babbling how she did it to get rid of that damned child and she wanted him to kill the brat so that Salome would suffer. You were supposed to love me and not that gitana! He tells her that Salome means nothing to him but she raves and tells him to back off. He draws close and tells her to think of their child. She moans, then laughs: did he really think she was pregnant? She looks at him wildly and tells him that she’s really sterile. She can’t even give him a child. She laughs and cries crazily. Why can she have a child and I can’t! Meanwhile, Rafa’s sneaked up behind her and grabbed the knife and Erendira collapses. The police grab her on either side and drag her out, shrieking and hollering. Everyone looks on in horror. No wonder: it’s a full moon!

Later, Juan knocks on Victoria’s door and tries to get her to open the door. Jimena tells him to leave. We see a stonefaced Victoria sitting in her chair, straightbacked, resolute and silent, unlike Erendira who’s in a straight jacket and being manhandled onto a bed in the manicomio and then strapped down onto a bed.

The next morning, Erendira’s father comes in to the pesquera office to threaten Sebas “for what he’s done to his daughter,” even though Sebas tries to tell him that Erendira confessed to killing Rodrigo and kidnapping a child. Jimena pipes in and says that this isn’t Sebas fault but Alberto tells her to butt out. No one asked you. Jimena persists and goes on to say that Erendira’s always been selfish, the only difference is that this time she went too far. Alberto tells her to leave that she’s fired. Sebas tells him that he can’t fire anyone but Alberto waves his money over their head. As long as they have his money, he can do is he pleases. As soon as they repay him his money, they can do as they please and he hopes that they rot in bankruptcy. Sebas proudly tells him that this is exactly what he’d been thinking of doing. After Alberto leaves, he wonders if they will face bankruptcy, and feels bad for Jimena without a job. I was going to quit anyhow she tells him. Things happen for a reason, she tells him, and then Jimena confesses that she knew that the pregnancy was false and she apologizes. He tells her not to worry about it. I should have known better myself who I was married to, he tells her. Sashenka enters and Jimena leaves. he asks how Fardi is (fine) and she tells him she was worried about him.

Rafa tells Ofelia about the situation with Rodrigo and Erendira and his mother. She asks if he’ll go talk to his mother but he tells her he won’t because he doesn’t think that what she did was right. Adela eavesdrops. Ofelia tries to talk sense into him. She notes Adela spying and calls her on it.

Sashenka tells Sebas that she was thinking about what happened all night long. That their grandmother has gitano blood might be significant. She tells him to search for his sister as there are no more impediments. He tells her that there are: he doesn’t know if he can forgive Salome. She tries to convince him that this is indeed not true. Her sister loves him and has suffered for trying to do what she thought was right. She tells him not to repent letting her sister leave the way his father repents letting her mother leave. She leaves him to think.

Victoria’s still sitting alone in her room telling everyone to go away. Someone knocks but Victoria tells whoever it is to go away. No one understands her: leave her alone. I won’t be humilated. In walks Jovanka and stands in front of her. Victoria congratulates and and tells her she must be enjoying her revenge.

Telenovela-World: Summary: Tuesday 3/22 for our travelers! Author: Robin N (laptop) (---) Date: 03-22-05 20:59 PST

Victoria wants to know what Jovanka wants: to laugh at her? Ironic that she’s as gitana as Jovanka is. She responds that she didn’t come to mock Victoria, she understands her very well. She knows that what Victoria did she did to protect her sons, and grandson, much the way her mother tried to protect her. Victoria remembers bitterly that her mother had to flee with those who knew her mocking her and her child. Jovanka sadly recalls how she had to do the same with Sashenka so that the same wouldn’t happen to her daughter. She tells her that she too made mistakes in the name of protecting her family but Victoria doesn’t want her understanding or pity. Jovanka tries to assure her that she does feel this sincerely. Victoria tells her to leave; that her being a bastard daughter of a gitano doesn’t change how she feels about Jovanka. Jovanka sadly agrees that the wounds haven’t been healed by what’s happened, nor will they be, but it helps her understand why Victoria did the things she did to her. Jovanka leaves and Victoria stares into the mirror.

Adela comes home and shares the chisme about Victoria being gitana. Alfredo and Claudio don’t believe her but she persists and tells them about overhearing Rafael. Adela enjoys the news, recalling how Victoria lorded (or would that be ladied?) over them all these years... She can’t wait to tell the whole town.

Jovanka comes across Juan sitting alone in the sala of the house on her way out and he asks what she’s doing there. She tells him that she tried to talk to his mother but was unsuccessful, but she understands Victoria. This surprises Juan, that the person who should most resent Victoria offers her comprehension and support. He thanks her for it but she tells him she doesn’t need his thanks, he’s the one who taught her to tear down the doors and learn to forgive. She learned this forgiveness from him. He modestly says that he can’t really take credit; this was from his days as a priest and it’s just the words of God showing someone the way. This sets her off and her eyes flash. So then you taught me nothing, you’re not responsible for anything, as it pertains to me, if you deny this then I suppose you felt nothing for me, never loved me. Why did you do this to me, make me another person? Why did you make me believe in a love? Why did you convert me into a fragile woman?... Only to break me? Juan starts to respond but (the dying) Rafael and Sebastián enter the room, reminding Juan of his “plan,” and he stops, then finishes his remarks by saying that he has nothing else different to say to her; he said what he had to say to her already.

Sashenka tells Magdalena of her conversation with Sebastián, how she told him that there were no more impediments but he doesn’t want to hear anything further of Salome. Magdalena believes that when Salome comes home this will change but Sashenka worries that Salome will continue with her stupid idea that being around the people she loves causes bad things to happen. Magdalena believes that Sebastián and Salome deserve another chance. Jon enters, and Magdalena spots him, and he grins as she makes herself and Fardi scarce, to leave him alone with Sashenka. Magdalena tells him to come on in. He smiles at Fardi and tousles his hair. Sashenka half-smiles.

Rafael tells Jovanka that had he known she was going to talk to his mother, he’d have come with. She tells him that she thought it would help but she was mistaken. Sebastián remarks that it was unlikely that his abuela would respond. The cop comes in Sebastián asks about Eréndira and he tells him she’s fine, they have her under doctor’s care, but that’s not why he’s there; he’s got something else to do. According to Eréndira, Sra. Victoria was involved in the kidnapping of Far and he’s come to bring her in. Victoria has surfaced from her room and passes by to hear this remark and everyone in the room is stunned by this development. Juan can’t believe his ears and Sebastián remarks that there has to be some mistake, however the cop repeats the information he received from Eréndira. He adds that this isn’t all: according to the snitch, Victoria has been involved in other serious crimes. Victoria speaks up and demands that he speak of her with respect for her age, and for who she is in the town. The cop sighs and says that this is the reason this is so hard for him. He finds it hard to believe that she’d have had anything to do with the fire at the pesquera. Rafael asks if this is true and the cop explains that Rodrigo and Drag were the ones who carried it out, according to Eréndira and Drag himself could confirm this. Victoria asks if he’s going to believe la loca, who’s in an asylum, over her -- I’m not like she is, she avows. I’m Victoria Lambert de Dominguez, and I’m owed respect. Sebastián places his hands on her shoulders and she pushes them off.

Jon tells Sashenka that he’d thought about leaving as it’s hit him like a ton of bricks, his having snitched on his father and all, but her grandfather insisted that he should stay. He tells her that he hasn’t decided yet, but he wants to know what she thinks about this. She wonders why her opinion matters: she didn’t see what happened. He tells her that what she thinks determines whether he stays or goes because the only reason he’d want to stay is for her. He asks if he can have some hope that she’d forgive him some day and let him prove to her that she’s the only woman he wants to spend the rest of his days with. She looks stunned.

Rafael asks again if this all is true. He always knew she was intolerant but this seems too far even for her. Juan (bobo!) remarks that perhaps they shouldn’t after all put credence in the words of a woman who’s mentally unstable but the cop tells them that the fact that it was Victoria who arranged for Rodrigo’s release from prison is enough to have her brought in. Jovanka asks Santa Sara to protect and forgive Victoria and Juan asks Victoria if it’s all true. Victoria looks at him coldly and remarks that they’re all acting as if they believe it’s true, so what purpose would it serve her to deny it? Rafael pleads with her to tell her the truth, they’re her family and they’ll support her, but she’ll have none of this. She comes over to him and asks if that means she should beg forgiveness, get down on her knees, she won’t do that. If time were turned back she’d do it all the same, just to erase that stain of gitano blood. She asks permission to change her clothes before appearing before a judge. Juan places a hand on her shoulder and she tells him not to touch her -- no one should touch her! She leaves to go change and all are stunned by this revelation.

In her room, she takes out some pearls and lays them on a beautiful dress laid out on the bed and stands back to admire the ensemble.

Downstairs, the family is sitting around, collapsed into shocked silence. Sebastián paces and wonders what’s happening, what kind of family they are that this could happen. He wants to know how God could have forgotten them, to allow them to be sullied like this and Juan speaks up asking him not to speak like that. They have to avoid falling into desperation, he understands how easy it can be to do so, God’s just sent them another “test.” This makes Sebastián mad because he’s fed up with God’s tests, he’s already got the message that life’s unfair and you have to fight for everything, that there are no dreams, only reality. Rafael tells his son that things will change with time but Sebastián wonders how/when; is he supposed to hate the woman he’s loved like his own mother. Is a better solution to send her to jail for what she did to his son? He wonders how he can possibly look her in the eyes but Jovanka gently remarks that he must take care not to let hate fill him, it marks you. Juan agrees that Jovanka is right and that the only thing can do now is forgive Victoria for her pride. She’s going to have to respond for her crimes but they must still give her their love and respect for who she is in their lives. Rafael doesn’t look like he’s willing to do this, nor does Sebastián.

Vi dresses beautifully and as she finishes she looks in the mirror and saying to her reflection, this is for you, mother. Now I’m your reflection. For you I was humiliated in front of all, for you. I won’t endure the same. She goes to her wardrobe and takes out a bundle of letters and places them in a large china bowl and sets them on fire with a match. She adds in the foto of her father and curses him for having ruined their lives for nothing more than a stupidity called “love.” She says that the two will now burn together in hell. She takes a silver perfume bottle from her dresser and opens it. Perfume or poison? She places the bottle to her lips and drinks it down, wiping her lips.

Jon tells Sa that he knows that he made a lot of mistakes with her but she should know that the time they spent together was the most precious time in his life. He holds her hand and she looks at him dispassionately. Her love was everything and he loves her and he fell into his own stupid well of jealousy. She’s his destiny and he hopes that she’ll forgive him. He begs her and she draws her hands away from him and tells him that she doesn’t know what to tell him. She’s still smarting from what happened and she doesn’t know if she can forgive him. This news bums him out badly but he agrees that she’s right and he understands her. She smiles sadly and tells him that it doesn’t mean that she wants him to leave the tribe. He takes hope from this and asks her if that means that not all is lost.

Juan enters Victoria’s room and she’s sitting, still, on a straight-backed chair. He asks her what’s happening because the comandante is waiting. Why, is he in a hurry to have her leave? Juan tells her that he just wants her to not be alone. He asks her about the charred remnants in the bowl -- what had she done? She distractedly tells him that she freed them. He picks up the empty bottle and looks alarmed and asks her what it was that she took. She tells him that it will take her far so that they don’t have to feel any guilt that she’d be in jail, feeling neither pity nor shame. He sniffs the liquid and realizes that it’s poison. He hollers for Sebastián and Rafael to call a doctor. She stops him and tells him not to call anyone, she wants to be alone. Doesn’t a woman have the right to die in peace. He looks on at her, troubled.

The doctor has been called and he tells the family assembled (Pasca and Baldomero are there too now) that he did all he could but as he doesn’t know anything about the type of poison he can’t really treat the symptoms and it seems like it is too late anyhow. They could take her to the hospital but she might die on the way. Pasca asks to see the bottle and she sniffs it and recognizes it. It’s a gitano poison against which there’s not cure. Rafael and Sebastián look sad.

Juan begs his mother to confess, to not leave them. She’s laying down on her bed, resolute. Confess? To whom? There’s no priest close by. He bows his head in anguish. He tells her he can give her the sacrament in emergencies and he pleads her not to die with so much hatred. She tells him she’s got nothing left to do but die and tells him to leave her and get out. Let me die in peace! Get out! If you won’t get out then stay quiet! I want to see death when it comes in silence.

Sebastián asks Pasca what his grandmother would be doing with a gitano poison. She tells him that her father prepared such a poison and starts to speculate that perhaps her father and his great-grandmother were planning to commit suicide... She can’t believe it. It’s a fine line between life and death. Baldomero smells it too and recognizes it as the poison that is used to punish a crime.

Juan begs his mother not to leave, not to go without confession. Pasca enters carrying a cup of tea that will help her pain. Victoria tells her she needs nothing but Pasca tells her not to fake it; she knows the effect the poison has on the body. This is the poison that the gitanos use to punish a crime, she asks Pasca, and adds, therefore I am paying for my crimes and dying like a gitano. Pasca insists that she only wants to help her. She plays the sister card and tells her she doesn’t want to see her suffer. Victoria tosses the cup aside and this makes Pasca remark that she is a gitana. She touches her sister’s hand and leaves.

Magdalena and Claudio are visiting Vanya again and talking to Vinka and Lazlo. He’s thanking them for their support and speaking of his plans to create a stronger, new tribe, one that is tolerant and understanding. He tells them about how he spoke with Magdalena that morning how she is going to form a family with a gayó and he asks Vinka and Lazlo to open their hearts and support this union. Magdalena is a gitana and will continue to be one for the rest of her life he tells them and Magdalena smiles and thanks him. Vanya thanks her for supporting him when he was in trouble and Claudio pipes up that for him it will be an honor to be by his granddaughter’s side... Patriarca. Vanya repeats that the young couple is a beautiful example of love and understanding and he asks that Santa Sara bless them.

Victoria is groaning in pain and Juan begs her to repent. Don’t take this hate with you. She brushes him off and he makes the sign of the cross over her and prays. She holds up her hand and it falls, she’s dead. He looks at her and begins to weep. He caresses her hand and cries over her body.

Sebastián and Rafael are seaside with a box containing Victoria’s ashes which Sebastián drops in the sea. He wishes that she rest in peace and Rafael adds that he hopes that’s possible, the same way that they did when they found Fardi. Sebastián agrees and feels bad that Juan couldn’t be with them. Rafael agrees that Juan’s changed a lot; he can’t believe that he left without saying anything, let alone where he was going.

Escudero is riding a donkey led by a young boy and he approaches a tent in the scruffy desert. It’s Juan’s and he’s chopping wood. Escudero tells him he brought what Juan asked for and Juan asks if he’s hungry. He notes Escudero’s new glasses and the little man remarks that he’s trying to modernize himself a bit but his old frames were more comfortable. He asks about everyone in town and Escudero tells him that everything’s much the same, that Sebastián has decided to solve the problems at the pesquera once and for all and that Rafael is all excited now that his daughter is getting married. He spends all his time at Jovanka’s house. This makes Juan bow his head and he adds that he’s happy for his brother. He confirms that no one knows where he is and Escudero swears that this is the case. He thanks him, but Escudero tells him he doesn’t understand why Juan’s here in this isolation. Juan, says nothing, but hands some food to Escudero.

Rafael tells Sebastián that Juan had told him that he’d planned to leave town, but he didn’t understand the relationship with Jimena, and he can’t understand the way he left town either. Sebastián suggests that it’s just Juan’s way of reconciling himself with life and Rafael agrees that that is what they all have to do, beginning with Sebastián. He tells his father that he’s trying to do so, beginning by taking care of Fardi. Rafael tells him that this isn’t what he meant: he knows that only one woman can fill his life. Sebastián doesn’t want to talk about this. She’s part of his past and he wants to leave it like that. Rafael thinks this is too harsh but Sebastián insists. Rafael cautions him that this kind of behavior can fester.

Magdalena is admiring Sashenka’s wedding dress with Jovanka. Sashenka comes in and carries a beautiful gold necklace and all admire it. Sashenka feels bad that Salome can’t be there with them and Magdalena agrees. Jovanka tells them she doesn’t want to see sad faces: they have to respect Salome’s decision. Sashenka can’t understand why Salome believes still that misfortune follows her.

Escudero asks if Juan can actually sleep in his tent and Juan agrees. A car approaches and it’s Jimena. Escudero’s glad because it means that Juan won’t be alone after he leaves. She walks up and greets the departing Escudero and Juan. Juan remarks that he thought she’d forgotten about him but we know that’s not possible. She asks him how he’s been and he says that he’s had better days. She wonders how long he’s going to hide out, until he hears that Jovanka has married his brother? He tells her that his brother is fine and without symptoms. Sebastián will soon find some time to tell Rafael the news about his illness. She asks about Jovanka and he tells her that there’s a great friendship between the two. She tells him that if it’s only a friendship then his sacrifice has served for nothing. He disagrees. She thinks it’s absurd that everyone thinks he’s with her, instead he’s in the middle of nowhere. He thanks her for her silence but she tells him that she loves him but doesn’t want him to continue with this farce. She had hoped he’d forget Jovanka and come to love her but she knows better now. He asks her forgiveness for having given her false hopes but she tells him this was never the case. She always knew his feelings and she’ll never forget him but it’s time for her to move on. They embrace.

Sashenka admires her dress in the mirror and the women are happy. Sashenka tells Jovanka that she’s most happy that her parents will be together by her side. Rafael enters and brings news that Sebastián is going to search out Salome. They are all happy and all of a sudden he lurches into a faint. They try to bring him out of his faint. He attributes it to emotion.

Rafael is visiting the doctor and he tells him that it’s a good thing he came by because he’d have thought that Juan would have told him by now. Rafael’s confused. The doctor mentions that it’s clear that they symptoms are appearing and this makes him more confused. The doctor tells him that he has leukemia. He looks understandably stunned as he realizes that this is a death sentence.

Telenovela-World: Final Summary: Wed 3/23 for our travelers! Author: Robin N (laptop) (---) Date: 03-23-05 19:34 PST

Gran Final!

Rafael gets up in shock from his chair and now realizes why his brother... he breaks off what he was about to say. He asks how much time he has left. Months, maybe a year. The doctor wants to have him enter a hospital for studies but Rafael refuses to end his days that way. He asks the doctor to do the same favor for him as he did for Juan (maintain his secret).

Sebastián asks a priest where Salomé went; apparently she had just left shortly before he arrived. She’d had a vision that he’d come for her and fled. The two men talk about how the priest knew from Salomé that her visions had affected her greatly, that the burden of being, as she saw it, the cause os so much tragedy was overwhelming and making her fear for Sebastián’s life. Salomé left letters for him with the priest and left and the priest hands them over to a numb Sebastián.

Rafael calms Escudero -- he’s apparently just told him the news about the leukemia diagnosis -- who’s totally in shock and upset about the news. He made Escudero promise to not tell anyone else about it. He wants Escudero to do him a favor -- find his brother Juan. Escudero tells him he’s in a predicament because... Rafael tells him that he knows that Escudero knows where Juan is and he needs him to tell him where he is. Escudero spills the beans. Rafael asks about Jimena and Escudero tells him that she’s not with Juan, in spite of what everyone thinks. Rafael knew he was right in his suspicions. He thanks Escudero.

Sebastián reads Salome’s letters on a pier by the sea.

Magdalena brushes her hair before going to bed. Jovanka enters and tells her that she’s learned from Sebastián that Salomé won’t be coming home. She tells her how Salomé left just before he arrived. This troubles them but Jovanka is sure somehow, someday Salomé will return to the. She waxes on about this separation but Magdalena wants to raise another topic: she tells Jovanka that she knows that her mother keeps thinking about Juan. Jovanka won’t deny it. She reminisces that what she had with Juan was love, even if it was for just a day. Magdalena doesn’t know how Juan could involve himself with Jimena. Rafael enters and says that Jovanka should go seek Juan. He apologizes for eavesdropping. He tells her that he knows that she loves Juan and he loves her and he wants her to go find him. He tells her that the business with Jimena was a lie, told to make his sick brother happy his last days. This startles Jovanka. He tells her about the leukemia and how the doctor told Juan first. Rafael tells her that he’s fine, that they did some new tests, and Juan still thinks he’s got one foot in the grave. Juan’s busy sacrificing himself for others again. She’s annoyed that Juan takes this upon himself, especially when there’s been so much bad history with people making decisions for others, such as Victoria for her sons and Salomé for Sebastián. Rafael pleads his brother’s case but Jovanka reminds him of the kiss between Juan and Jimena in her own house. Rafael asks, And if I could prove to you that you’re mistaken? She looks at him, troubled.

Following him downstairs, Jovanka wonders what he’s up to. Jimena is awaiting them downstairs and Jovanka reacts angrily to her being in her house. This is proof to Jimena that Jovanka loves Juan and she tells her that there was nothing between Juan and herself. She also tells Jovanka that Juan was destroyed by the news that his brother was dying. She tells of Juan’s idea to sacrifice himself for her and his brother. Jovanka asks about the kiss and Jimena tells her that it was just to make her feel enough jealousy to break off with Juan. She also tells her that it was her idea and that she took him by surprise and it made him mad too with her, but he knew that it was the only way. Jimena confesses how she tried to make him love her but to no avail: Jovanka is the only woman in his life and if she doesn’t go find him he’ll be the most miserable man in the world.

Onboard La Sirena, Vanya thanks Sebastián for his help in a special service, to dunk Santa Sara in the sea. He explains to Sebastián that it’s a ritual -- Santa Sara came from the sea and maybe if she returns to it perhaps it will turn their luck around. In return, Sebastián asks Vanya to ask Santa Sara for help in getting Salomé to return. Santa Sara is tucked away in a glass case, ropes tied around the case. Sebastián kneels in front and prays.

Jovanka gets in her Jeep and finds Juan. He sees her drive up and is very surprised. She starts in and scolds him for treating her the way he did. Calm down, he tells her but she’s furious. He’s been gone for 3 months. She asks him how he could betray her like that -- she’s furious about his plan to leave her to be with his brother and he wonders who told her. She tells him that Jimena told him. He starts to tell her that Rafael is dying but she rebuts that Rafael’s well.

Salomé is performing a purification ritual tossing salt into a stream in some wooded area and lets the tray with the salt float downstream. She’s in her gitana nightie.

Vanya prays over the submerging Santa Sara. Sebastián reminds the statue of what he prayed for and he hopes that Santa Sara was listening to him. Vanya assures him that she was indeed listening. Suddenly, Drago sneaks up on them and pulls a gun. Apparently, he’s been hiding out on La Sirena.

Salomé continues praying and asking for her visions to go away. She doesn’t wish to know any more the future, she just wants to love without fear. At that moment though she sees what’s going on on La Sirena as Drago menaces Sebastián with a gun and is overcome with terror.

Juan thanks God that Rafael is healthy. He wants to talk about what good news this is and how relieved he is and how he’s been suffering but Jovanka tells him she’s not there to throw herself in his arms and make things all better. She tells him that she doesn’t want to hear what he thought or felt because she can’t help recalling how she spent that time apart feeling humiliated, hurt, and abandoned. Juan insists that he didn’t stop thinking about her not a single second he was apart from her but she can only remark, What a pity.

Drago has decided to finish once and for all with all those who were the instruments of his disgrace. Vanya starts to tell him that he had no one to blame but himself and while Drago starts to tell Vanya how he’s going to finish him off, Sebastián pulls a rope and it knocks the gun from Drago’s hand. Vanya is wounded as the gun fires as it falls, Sebastián goes for Drago and the two wrestle and fall overboard and disappear down into the water without a trace. We hear the rotor of the engine catch as if something is caught in the propeller and we see blood stain the water. Vanya is distraught. Just then, up pops Aquaman, gasping for air and Vanya throws him a line.

Salomé reads her palm and sees that Sebastián has been saved and she thanks Santa Sara. Overcome with joy and relieve she clasps her hands.

Juan pleads with Jovanka and tries to explain himself. I was a coward and mistaken but remember I thought my brother was at the end of his life about to die. How could he think of his own happiness at a time like that, knowing how Rafael felt about her. But you were willing to sacrifice me, she reminds him. Juan pleads with her. Without you there was nothing in the world to give me one grain of happiness. I love you and maybe I have no right to tell you but you’re the only thing I love. She looks at him with teary eyes and then resolutely marches back to her Jeep and drives off, leaving a desolate Juan with a backward glance.

The next day, it’s wedding day for the girls. Mirko returns to the tribe in a gayó suit. Vinka and Paska asks where his wife is and all chuckle. Vanya tells him that an angel is standing behind them. It’s Sandra who’s dressed like a gitana and she leaves Mirko speechless. He tells her how beautiful she is (in her two piece red chiffony midriff top and skirt, red lipstick and hair scarf). She tells him that she is always going to dress like this. She asks Vanya for a blessing for herself and her husband and for him to accept her as another member of the tribe. She tells Mirko that he never felt at home with her people, let her be part of his people. Besides, Vanya said that they need a teacher for the children. Vanya hugs her and agrees.

The town is assembled for the weddings. Bands play and everyone’s dressed up. Rafael dances with Fardi and Sebastián smiles and dances along with them. They’re all waiting for the arrival of the gitanos. Sebastián tells his father that he’s seen a change in him since they learned that he doesn’t have leukemia. Rafael tells him that he has decided to travel, but he’ll come back.

Jovanka on the balcony thanks the people for attending the wedding. She reminds them of the first time she spoke to them, issuing that memorable and unjust curse, on an undeserving and wonderful man. She talks about how things have changed and thanks everyone for showing them love and support. She thanks Rafael in particular for being a marvelous man. All applaud. She invites them all to join the gitano wedding at the camp. The brides exit the house in all their finery and pass amongst the crowds and enter the convertible. Jovanka comes out too and kisses Rafael and Sebastián and someone sets off fireworks. They wave to the girls as they set off. Everyone claps, a band plays, and the people follow happily behind. Sebastián stays behind with Fardi, watching them go and he’s alone in front of the house, holding his son. He turns to go the opposite direction, melancholy. He wanders through the town, slowly and sits Fardi down to play, kissing his head. He tells him that he can’t imagine how his mother looked when he stole him (Fardi) from her. Her eyes were so large and beautiful... He tells Fardi how his mother is the most beautiful woman of all, the only woman he has ever loved. Cue Salome’s entrance. She walks up at that moment, dressed for the wedding and Fardi reaches out to her and Sebastián does too as she calls out to him, “My loves!” Lover and son rise together to reach for her, so the single greeting covers them both. Salomé shows Sebastián her hand and tells him that the mark of ill destiny has been washed away. He holds her close and asks her, Why were you away so long? He leans to kiss her and she tells him that she has no more fears. They kiss long and deeply.

At the camp, everyone’s dancing up a storm, led by Branko. Camila and Mario kiss, Mirko and Sandra dance, Rafael and Ofelia hug, Adela and Alfredo dance and she scolds him for stepping on her shoes but he kisses away her scolding words. Juan strolls up, slowly and comes to Rafael and hugs him closely and asks if he’s well. Rafael swears that he is and they hug again. Rafael tells him that they’ve been waiting for him and they look over at Jovanka. Vanya calls them to attention and asks the brides to come forward. Everyone applauds and cheers and they walk through the crowd. Salomé and Sebastián come forward and Salomé runs to her sisters and hugs them, then turns to her mother and hugs her close. My three Marias, together. Sebastián steps forward and kisses Salomé too. They kiss again and again.

Vanya blesses the wedding couple. He pours the salt and wine into the broken loaf of bread and says, As with the salt, the bread and wine are united, those who love are united. He calls out to Salomé and Sebastián to step forward and be also united in matrimony too. They smile at each other and step forward eagerly. Salomé practically floats forward, and it’s very convenient that her dress is silvery and sparkly and Sebastián has on a white suit! Vanya hands the bread to each of the girls, and then to the men and then smiles. Magdalena pledges love and fidelity to Claudio and feeds him the bread. He pledges the same in return to his wife and feeds her the bread too. Salomé takes her turn and makes her pledge, emphasizing ‘forever’, and he repeats his pledge and offers all his love and fidelity forever. They laugh. It’s Sashenka’s turn and she beams at Jonas and gives her vows. His shining white teeth gleam as he repeats his. Vanya announces to all that they are united and they reject intolerance forever. The nuptial couples kiss and kiss and kiss and kiss. Vanya hugs Milenka close and smiles at her tenderly and gets his kiss too. Branko hops onstage and starts dancing and there are more kisses all around. Sashenka and Jonas dance and kiss. Mirko and Sandra kiss. Magdalena and Sashenka get up on the shoulders of their husbands and dance. Juan circles around to Jovanka and puts his hands on her shoulders and draws her aside. She follows him and when they’re alone asks him to let her go. We have to talk, he tells her. We’ve overcome so many obstacles, can’t you forgive me this last one? He asks her to remember what they’ve forgiven of themselves and of others, and how much they’ve loved each other. Nothing can/should impede us from being together. He leans forward and kisses her and she responds willingly. Rafael looks on from a distance and smiles benevolently. Ofelia sees him and asks if he’s well. He reassures her and notes how she’s always understood him. He asks her if she’s ever had a desire to visit another country. He kisses her and it grows into a passionate kiss. Aside, Jovanka surprises Juan by quietly repeating the wedding vows; she promises love and fidelity to Juan also, forever. Juan repeats the wedding promise as well. They kiss tenderly, again and again and the camera pans out to show the dancing crowd.

Fin

PS - The camera pans across various family photos. We hear the voice of Rafael speaking. Rafael tells us that the doctors said that he’d be dead a long time ago but now it’s 3 years later and he’s still alive. They say it’s some form of a miracle, but he attributes it to love. We see him sitting at a writing desk, surrounded by photos, including one with Jovanka and Juan and a baby, as if he’s written this story as a novel and he’s finished the last paragraph. Rafael finishes by saying that he lives now as a gitano.
